Saffron Tower II

This is a daytime photo of the Saffron Tower photo I showed yesterday for theme day.  Chihuly's Saffron Tower is set among the cactus at the Desert Botanical Gardens and it is directly in front of the Papago Park Mountains.

These mountains are wonderful to hike on, including my favorite hike to "Hole in the Rock." The Hohokam Indians used the Hole in the Rock to track the summer and winter solstices.

The mountains consist of sandstone that dates from 6 to 15 million years ago.  They have great red color and this art goes perfectly in these surroundings.

It is difficult to envision that Papago Park and its buttes are right in the middle of a metropolitan area of four million people.

Great photo of the Saffron Tower Julie.

It that a person standing by the yellow saffron, partially hidden by the brush? If it is wow, that really shows the size of the cactus and the saffron.

It really stands out. THis was a good choice for yellow theme.

This is gorgeous, day or night. Is that a person down there in the vegetation? I wouldn't have noticed if Clueless hadn't point it out but now I'm curious, too.

c'est encore plus surprenant vu comme ça. c'est très irréel

it's even more surprising given that way. very unreal

yes, that is a person standing next to the Saffron Tower and the person shows perspective as to how tall this tower really is.

What a beautiful photo...I remember Papago Park very well. Lois Anne's grandmother, then 86, loved to hike in there.

That Saffron Tower adds so much sparkle...

That's incredible. I didn't have any idea it was as tall as this. The location is amazing - is it in a private area - just it seems so vulnerable to damage, either intended or not.

How cool! It looks like some kind of wild cactus during the day. Hole in the Rock sounds very interesting! Probably a lot more fun than the cheesy tourist attraction in Utah named Hole 'N the Rock.

The Saffron Tower is more spectacular at night, but I like this image more just for the gorgeous background. Great shot.

This is exceptional with the mountain backdrop.

Yesterday's night shot is outstanding especially when beside the daytime view. The red rock backdrop is totally stunning.

I had to think for a minute about the idea of a saffron tower. I kknow saffron comes from saffron crocus stigmas which are very small, especially in comparison to the tower. It's beautiful, as is anything Chihuly creates. It's stunning.

It's pretty in the daytime too! That's a nice setting for it.

Oh wow - I would never have guessed it looked quite like that.

Julie, if you ever come across my lovely friends Kaye and Steve Senn there in Scottsdale, say g'day from Sally in Sydney ;-) (They're Wisconsonites in summer!)

I have so many question about this Saffron Tower, Julie....
What is Saffron Tower? How tall is it? And why it is located in among cactus in the desert?

henny said...

Oh, I just saw that person next to the tower... :))
