In Old Town Scottsdale, we have an art walk every Thursday night from 7 to 9 pm along Main Street and Marshall Way. You just follow the yellow brick road from gallery to gallery, well it may not be yellow, but you get the idea. The photo shows the logo stenciling on the sidewalks of Old Town Scottsdale so it is easy to participate in the Scottsdale ArtWalk. Thursday night art walks are a tradition started by the Scottsdale Gallery Association (SGA) over thirty years ago.
Scottsdale has over 100 art galleries, and Scottsdale has been named one of the top 25 arts destinations in the country by American Style Arts Destinations. The ArtWalk is an open house style event and the galleries are first rate in quality and diversity of the art that you will see. The area is very enjoyable to walk around, with fountains, statues, cafes, and more. It is Thursday so make a date tonight in Old Town Scottsdale and start walking down the yellow brick art road. Sounds like a great thing to do on a Thursday night, especially since it will be so warm.
We also have regular gallery walks, though not as often as you have them in Scottsdale. Hundreds of people flock to our downtown the first Friday in each month. No matter the weather, the town vibrates with energy as people come to look at the art and exchange ideas. I love that this is happening in other places, too. Nice logo, but I was more fascinated by your post about this tradition of art walks now thirty years old.
It's been a while since I've done the art walk in Scottsdale. Lately I have been participating in the Phoenix first Friday art walk on the first Friday of every month. One major difference in Phoenix is that the galleries are not all clustered together so shuttle transport is provided to move people from the various arts locations. It's always fun.
I bet this art walk is really fabulous!
How much fun would that be? Great idea...and I would imagine much of the art changes week by week, too!

Tagging along one of these nights, would I find a common theme among participating galleries or would it be more like a diverse mixture of what's currently happening on the gallery scene?
Reading your post reminded that I wanted to go to a gallery showing tonight. I've got to start writing these things down. I hope we get to see some of the artwork...
