Scottsdale Fairmont Princess

Scottsdale is full of magnificent resorts.  These resorts are architecturally interesting, have world-class golf, have great spas, restaurants, and shopping, and they are positioned to take advantage of the warm desert climate.   Often the resorts offer experiences like cook-outs in the desert or jeep tours through the desert, or as we call it "four wheel driving."

For the next few days I am going to take you on a tour of the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess Resort and Spa.  This photo is of the grand outside entrance lined with date palm trees.

OH, palmtrees. That looks like a dream to us here. But today - finally - it's sunny (but rather cold).

It is really a grand entrance, and I like the idea of the cook-outs in the desert...

Olivier,
Regarding your comment about the size of the palms, you should realize that these palms were large when they were planted at the resort. Most resorts want tall palm trees when the resorts open, not baby palms that will take years to grow.

When they build new resorts and new shopping centers in Scottsdale, they will usually lift the palms into place by crane, and sometimes even by helicopter in order to plant tall palm trees.

You can see the same thing even for houses. If you look at the masthead photo for Julie's Scottsdale Daily Photo site, you will see mature palm trees silhouetted agaist an Arizona sunrise. That photo was taken from Julie's front door. The houses are less than 10 years old and the palms were planted when the houses were built. Those palm trees were obviously planted as tall, mature trees.

This really looks nice! Apart from the water I can feel a desert atmosphere.

I've stayed at one of those resorts for a vacation, oops I mean conference, and it was wonderful. Can't wait to see more of the Fairmont.

Sure looks very inviting! I don't know why, but I always think date palms are magical. Maybe I associate them with the Arabian Nights. ;-)

Nice entrance! Is it terribly expensive?

Can I go to the resort with you please? I need a spa day.

Scottsdale has changed considerably since we lived there...I can remember a few resorts, but I'm amazed at the numbers of those and the art galleries, etc.

I think we're going to have to trip through there again one of these days.

Oh Julie, you live in a dreamland. I love your country but I have never been to Arizona. My friend Geneviève used to go every year but she won't go this year, which makes her very sad.

Palmtrees, desert and warmth all over the year... so far from my own universe! I've always been wondering how do you manage with water...
