Barrett Jackson had $63 million in sales and this is only a three day event! Gooding and Co sold $32.4 million and had the highest single car sales. They sold a 1960 Ferrari GT California Spider for $4.95 million and a 1937 Talbot-Lago Tear Drop Coupe for $3.5 million. RM Auctions sold $18.2 million in collector cars, and Russo & Steele sold $17.1 million. We see all types of collector cars on the streets of Scottsdale during this big event. I took this photo of the back of a 1930s wood-paneled Packard parked in Old Town Scottsdale (say that three times fast).

Most years, Jay Leno shows up to buy at least one car from one of the auctions!
It's amazing how this crises doesn't really affect everyone... I love old cars and your shot is super but even if I was rich I don't think I would spend my money on them... :-)))
Backing to Argentina: I loved the country, Julie! I spent some wonderful time at Peninsula Valdez, El Calafate/Perito Moreno, Ushuaia and surroundings, before coming back to B.A. and then there was the chaos... :-)
hi Julie,
I choose my cars by how comfortable they are so you can guess that I wouldn't be at a car auction..
It makes a good photo though.
I love watching the auctions on TV. They're covered on the "Speed" cable channel.
I guess not everyone is affected by the economic downturn.
Great photo. Feels like a classic.

I love American plates... :-)
Nice contrast of textures and colors!
Stu; Thanks for the info on the car auctions. I have not watched them on cable before.
Not all dealers are going under! And some prices are still rising. LOL.
