I grew up in the Arizona desert and love cactus over any other types of plants. Each is very unique and tends to have amazing flowers that live for a very short time. On some cacti, you have to be very quick to see the flower as they can open, bloom, and die in just a few hours. Some only bloom at night so you have to go out and look at the flower only in the moonlight. Agaves, like the one in the bottom right of the photo, are one of my favorites and I have over 22 agaves in my yard. I have grown many of them up from pups. The large blue agaves are truly striking. In the days to come I will post photos of some of them.

Brilliant composition!!!
I would love to see the Chihuly exhibit, especially this one amidst all cacti as I'm also a lover of this amazing plants and other succulents too! (you can check my 'piece of nature...' blog, if you like).
By the way, it is Iguaçu on your avatar, right? :-)
I like this combination. Nice photo.
I like the way you composed this photo. Very nice.
JM: Thanks for your compliment about the photo. I noticed previously from your comments on Sharon's Phoenix daily photo site that you loved cacti and you will see a lot of them on my site, including cactus flowers. I will check out your nature web site as you always have great photos and composition. You have a great eye for locations and you are correct that my profile photo is in front of Iguacu on the Brazil side. Of course if we were on the Argentine side, it would be Iguazu and you know those Argentines never want to be confused with Brazil in any way, shape or form :)
Abraham Lincoln: Thank you for your encouragement. You are always good at motivating all of the city daily photo site bloggers and I have enjoyed your comments and dedication to the daily photo sites. My husband (Dave at Costa Rica Daily Photo) have enjoyed your birds and backyard shots. Your photos are truly amazing as you capture the birds in color, movement, and excellent compositions.
Sharon: I am glad you liked this photo. I tried to do something different to combine Chihuly art and real cactus. I have enjoyed your Phoenix Daily Photo site this year and am really glad you are doing it. Great way for all of us who live in the valley of the Sun to learn more about our community.
My favorite aspect of this photo is that even the mastery of Chihuly cannot duplicate nature in the delicate tips of the agave silhouetted against the light captured by the Chihuly glass.
I agree, great composition! Impressive! :)
lovely composition
Gosh, I didn't realise this was Chihuly against an Agave. Just assumed, in the portal, both were agaves. Then I clicked to enlarge. Fabulous! Super shot. I agree with others who love the composition.
