Here is a view of a section of the exterior of the Biosphere 2, which I have been showing for the last few days. There are lots of details and angles at the Biosphere that make it an attractive target for photography.
It must have been a creative challenge for the architects and engineers to design the Biosphere. It is a unique structure for a very unusual purpose. I don't know, but I suspect that it is the only structure built for the purpose of having people live inside for years without any physical contact with the outside world.
The Biosphere 2 is enclosed. It is covered with glass, so rain does not fall. It is sealed so outside air does not get inside. It sustained human and plant life inside for several years while the experiment was active.
I am sure that there was not a course in architecture school on how to design such structures.
This week we are showing another set of underwater photos from our recent trip to the Galapagos Islands posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.
This would be a challenge to design and construct.
ReplyDeleteIt was my understanding that the design had a lot to do with the thought of what materials could be transported into space and reassemble there. The geometric panels made the pieces easy to stack and transport.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this was an interesting and complex project to design and build. It really looks futuristic.
