Photo: A Second Camelback Mountain Rescue

After the rescue that I have showed during the past few days, the helicopter returned to about the same spot on Camelback Mountian and rescued another hiker, which is shown in today's photo.

It turns out that while the rescue team was attending to the 53-year old man with a broken ankle, a 76-year old man walked up with bad lacerations on his face and arms due to a fall.

I guess the rescuers decided that because they already had the helicopter making one rescue, they flew the second man down, although he did not require hospital treatment.

The wife of the first man rescued, who emailed to me, said that the Mountain Rescue Crew was amazing.

The newspaper reported that in addition to the two rescues on Camelback, on Thanksgiving Day three hikers were rescued from Piestewa Peak.  I wonder how many other big cities in the world have helicopter-equipped Mountain Rescue Squads.  Certainly not NewYork, Chicago, London, Paris or Rome.  Maybe Hong Kong or Rio de Janiero.

This week we have photos of our recent trip to Papua New Guinea on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  It was a wonderful mix of native cultures, South Pacific scenery, a total solar eclipse, and a volcano erupting at night.

    It seems like hiking is a popular thing to do on Thanksgiving. Maybe people are trying to burn some calories due to the meal.
