The Colorado River and Vermillion Cliffs

Look at the glow of the late sun on the Vermillion Cliffs.

It was a gorgeous view and I wish I was heading down the Colorado River.

Surprisingly, I have never rafted the Colorado River, but need to do so. I will have to make it a goal.

I can only imagine what it must look like to be on the river looking up at these gorgeous canyon walls and the condors soaring down.

I will have to figure out a way to keep my camera dry, however.

The scene is magnificent and the light so gorgeous!

Many thanks for your thoughts and concern, Julie. So many countries in the Pacific region were devastated by so many calamities, it's just mind-boggling. I hope that everyone recovers soon too.

The river looks very calm here, but floating downstream will plunge the rafts into a raging fury.

You mentioned John Wesley Powell in your post about Lake Powell a few days ago. He lost an arm in the Civil War, and later led the first expedition to float down the river through the Grand Canyon. Several men in his party gave up and decided to walk out of the canyon. It turns out that the gave up just before what turned out to be the last rapids.

Powell and the rest of his party made it through the canyon. The men who tried to walk out were never seen or heard from again.

It's a great idea! Rafting that river is a must do if you live there (I'm putting this on my bucket list of things to do)

It's hard to believe there is something you haven't tried yet, Julie. I'm sure that will soon be remedied.

I had the same thought. Cameras don't swim well.

I love that view from Navajo Bridge. Hope you saw some condors.

I've never river-rafted, but it must be amazing. I have no sense of perspective here. Do you know how wide the river is in your photo?

Never done it neither... I would prefer hiking along it.
It's breathtaking!

Dave is right. It does look pretty calm in this photo, but I've seen other photos that leave me wondering if I'd really want to go for it. Beautiful photo Julie.

Yes, keeping your camera dry would be a problem, but they do have molded forms that fit over different cameras for that purpose..

Incredible shot. I haven't been in that area for so long. It's really nice to see the river and canyons again!
